The Notch Report

What We Do

The Notch Report covers local government across New Hampshire. We report on the decisions made by selectmen, planning boards, school boards, zoning boards, and city councils — the votes, budgets, and policies that directly shape residents' daily lives.

Our coverage draws on public records, official documents, and original reporting. We keep stories concise and readable so any resident can follow what their local government is doing without needing to be an expert in municipal procedure.

Coverage spans towns across New Hampshire, from the Seacoast to the North Country. Our goal is to give every community in the state consistent, accurate reporting on its local government.

Why We Exist

Local news coverage in New Hampshire has declined sharply over the past two decades. Many communities have lost the reporters who once attended selectmen's meetings and school board hearings. Without that coverage, residents often don't learn about key decisions until they appear on their tax bill or on their street.

Local government still functions. Boards still meet, vote, and spend public money. The Notch Report exists to make sure residents can follow what's happening — and hold their local officials accountable.

We believe transparency at the town level is a civic right, not a luxury.
